Under this Agreement, IndiGo encourages its passengers to reduce their carbon footprint. Passenger Contributions are used to fund a series of Carbon reducing initiatives in villages across the country. CROSS, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh
Community Reconstruction of Social Service (CROSS) is a grassroots NGO based at G.D. Nellore, Chittoor, in Andhra Pradesh. CROSS works with 11,343 small & marginal farmer families who own a total of 13,528 acres in 460 villages. On 28 February 2013, CROSS registered the CDM Project with the UNFCCC to construct 5,000 domestic Biogas units for as many families in their area of operation and reduce the drudgery faced by rural women.
CROSS is a member of the Fair Climate Network and we facilitated them to register a Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) Project with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). Simultaneously, we assisted CROSS to get the project registered with the Gold Standard to certify its sustainability and community contribution.

Accion Fraterna, Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh
Accion Fraterna Ecology Centre (AF) is a grassroots NGO based in one of the poorest and drought hit districts of India. AF works with 6,568 small & marginal farmer families who own a total of 29,097 acres in 186 villages.
AF is one of the founding members of the Fair Climate Network. In January 2012, Accion Fraterna registered a Biogas CDM Project with the UNFCCC to build 15,000 domestic Biogas units for as many drought hit families in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh.

SUVIDHA, Haldwani, Uttarakhand
SUVIDHA is a grassroots NGO based at Haldwani, Uttarakhand. SUVIDHA works with 10,665 small & marginal farmer families who own a total of 16,433 acres in 278 villages. After a very comprehensive energy usage household survey, followed by many village level discussions, demonstrations, etc., SUVIDHA registered a Gold Standard project to construct domestic Biogas units for rural families in Ramnagar, Haldwani and Kotabagh Blocks of Nainital district on 16 February 2016.
These 3 blocks are situated on the plains below the Himalayas. IndiGo has also done marvellous work on sanitation, lighting, etc. in Dhela village of Ramnagar Block.

Under an Emission Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA), IndiGo purchased 97,896 yet-to-be-generated CERs from CROSS for a total of ₹ 11.17 crore (average price ₹ 1,141 per CER) on behalf of its Passengers. These CERs will not be traded in the International Carbon Market; they will be retired in the UNFCCC Retirement Registry. Thereby IndiGo will facilitate Passengers make a real and absolute contribution to GHG reduction, while at the same time promoting sustainable development for rural households.
In January 2015, IndiGo purchased yet another 66,523 CERs under a similar ERPA with Accion Fraterna for a total of ₹ 8.5 crore (average price ₹ 1,277 per CER).
